Maybe this is an inappropriate forum in which to discuss a recent loss. Maybe stoopad.com, in all of its shining, surreal, ridiculous glory, lacks the authority and authenticity for such expositions. But whatever: Here in the States it’s Thanksgiving, and I want to take a moment to write about what I’m thankful for. This year I am thankful for my great-grandmother.
She passed away yesterday afteroon, just a week after her 100th birthday.
I am thankful for my great-grandmother. I’m thankful for the way she raised her daughter, her granddaughter and her great grandson. I am thankful she raised us with compassion and a stern yet loving hand. I’m thankful for the kindness she exhibited to her family and to strangers. I’m thankful for the dessert she made and for the many family gatherings we had at her quaint little home, long before Alzheimer’s robbed her of her memories, her dignity and humanity.
I thought the world of my great-grandmother and will miss her dearly. Thank you grandma, I love you to pieces.
